Do Shamans See Ghosts?

 

Do you see ghosts? That's one of the first of many questions I am asked when people seek answers to shamans. One of the many horrors people think we carry on our backs is the ability to see ghosts. 

I will tell you...NOT ALL DO. 

Everyone's ability is different. Some do see physical forms, others see blurry shadows, others are completely blind to it. Some hear voices while others hear nothing. Some communicate freely and openly while others can't. 

What has led to this belief? Perhaps the growing up in a household where it is used to put children to bed. Like the old tale of "monsters in the closet," and the story gets twisted and changed over time. By the time it gets back to its original owner, the true writer no longer recognizes the truth. It's been edited so much that it is now just another story added to the dust. 

Our gifts are special and unique. Everyone is not the same and if you ask one shaman, they'll tell you something different from another. If we were all the same, we'd have no specialty to our name. When you visit a family doctor and find out you have an illness he can't treat, what does he do? He sends you to a specialist who deals with only that certain illness. In his hands, is the trust, the education, the power to embrace this kind of medical treatment. 

Shamans are the same way. 

We are all different in how we speak, how we train and how we see things. Each one of us is gifted by the heavenly mother and father with a gift all our own. Some of us do see ghosts. 

I am one. 

The next question is...what do they look like? They look like us but with different skin material. Some are not pretty to look at. Some are exactly the same. They have to adapt to the environment they live in to survive. It's like aliens who live on mars. They must shift themselves to live. Does this mean they are harmful? Not all the time. Everyone has a story to tell...even scary looking beings who we do not want to look at. We learn that not everyone began their life looking that way. Along the way, something occurred and took away our beauty. That's why we have what we call unfinished business. 

Believe me, if I could, I sometimes wish to unsee these things. Do they frighten me? Yes, they still do even after so many years of getting used to having them around. Can I talk to them? Absolutely and their stories are heart breaking. Can they harm me? No. Humans are actually scarier because they can literally do physical things to you, liking suddenly stabbing you in the back with a knife, like firing a gun at you. 

Do Shamans see ghosts? 

Not all do. But I do.
